Diversity Action Team

Overview

The Division of Student Services Diversity Action Team (DAT) was formed in the spring of 2007.  Charged by Dr. John C. Cernech, Vice President for Student Services, DAT has crafted a diversity policy statement, launched a continuing education plan for every staff member in the Division, and hosted listening sessions to hear the concerns of students on our campus.  Framed within the context of understanding cultural competencies, DAT is guided by “A Typology of Intergroup Competencies” by V. Jean Ramsey and Jean Kantambu Latting.

A Note from the Chair

Welcome to the Diversity Action Team website.  The purpose of this website is to increase the level of diversity competency in every member of the Division of Student Services and provide a resource for the promotion of diversity within the entire university.  We invite your comments on every aspect of the policy and its implementation within the Division.  At this time, the promotion of the IDEA program is a central focus of the DAT.  IDEA stands for "Initiatives for Diversity Education and Action."  The IDEA program is, essentially, a series of continuing education opportunities in diversity competency in which all members of the Division are asked to participate.  Specifically, all members of the Division must earn eight continuing education units (CEU) through the program each year.  A current list of events along with the number of potential CEUs is available on this site.  It is the goal of the DAT to use every bit of feedback offered to improve the IDEA experiences.  Thank you for visiting the DAT website!
