Lunch and Learns

At least once a semester, the Student Empowerment Network invites a community organization or program to Creighton's campus to discuss how they advocate for persons with disabilities locally and/or globally. In the Fall 2006 Semester, our organization invited Tim Kolb of Nebraska Ticket to Work. Nebraska Ticket to Work is one local program that has made it easier for people with disabilities to return to work and maintain health care coverage, if they choose to do so. Annual Wheelchair Basketball Exhibition

The Student Empowerment Network has established a partnership with the Eastern Nebraska Wheelchair Athletic Association (ENWAA) and the local Red Dawg Wheelchair Basketball Team to raise awareness about athletic opportunities available to persons with disabilities. November 2006 marked the second annual wheelchair basketball exhibition in which a basketball tournament raised money to support ENWAA and its goals. Following the tournament, the Red Dawgs faced off against the CU women's basketball team in a fun and entertaining competition. The tournament and exhibition has become more popular and many Creighton students, faculty and staff are being introduced to a new way of playing basketball. Indeed, we are playing together to make a difference!
