Education Program
The IBC will make available Biosafety Education Video Seminars to inform investigators of policies and procedures that must be followed when using biohazardous materials in research. Videos are available to view in the Research Compliance Office. Please contact the Research Compliance Educational Coordinator at 280-2680 for further information or to schedule an appointment to view these.
Who is required to attend Biosafety Training?
I. Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Members
- IBC Chair: The IBC Chair shall attend and/or participate in appropriate educational sessions to ensure that he/she knows and understands all regulatory and scientific standards regarding the use and/or possession of biohazardous materials, including select agents.
- IBC Members: IBC members shall receive appropriate training and education on the necessary standards for use and/or possession of biohazardous materials. Such education may be provided by the IBC Chair.
II. Faculty Members
- Initial Mandatory Training: Any Creighton Faculty member who uses and/or possess biohazardous material subject to IBC registration must attend initial mandatory biosafety training before the IBC will review any registration of biohazardous materials.
- On-Going Mandatory Training: The IBC may require additional training, as necessary to ensure that Faculty members using and/or possessing biohazardous materials know and understand the scientific and regulatory requirements for such use/possession. Faculty members will be advised of such additional training requirements, as determined by the IBC.
Biosafety Registration
By law, Creighton University Investigators are required to notify the Institution as to whether or not their laboratories possess biohazardous materials. Biosafety registration forms must be submitted to the IBC before Investigators begin research. This registration includes:
- Infectious Agents (IBC form 1)
- Recombinant DNA (IBC form 2 or 2a)
- Select Agents (IBC form 1a)
Annual Select Agent Training
Annual select agent training is mandatory of all Investigators possessing select agents. Select Agent training will be provided on an as needed basis. Please contact the IBC Chair for more information.
