Creighton Staff Contribute to Award-Winning Alzheimer’s Book

Roger Brumback, professor of pathology and psychiatry and chairman of the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine, and Patricia Callone, vice president for Institutional Relations, authored, along with others, Alzheimer’s Disease: A Handbook for Caregivers, Family and Friends, the 2006 winner of the American Journal of Nursing’s Book of the Year Award in the category of consumer health.

The award was announced in the journal’s January issue, in which the book was referred to as a “practical, insightful resource which examines credibly and with compassion, the challenges of caring for someone with Alzheimer disease.”

Alzheimer’s is a devastating disorder of the brain’s nerve cells that impairs memory, thinking and behavior. Reviewers felt the book provides possible solutions to common problems of caregiving, simplifies complex concepts and analyzes various caregiving styles and emphasizes nuturing rather than mourning the individual.

Copies of the book are available through Demos Medical Publishing. This is the second release by the authors in two years. The other book’s title is A Caregiver’s Guide to Alzheimer’s Disease: 300 Tips for Making Life Easier.
