Resident Class, 2007
Cheryl Buda, M.D.

Cheryl BudaDr. Buda was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Omaha South High School and then went on to get Bachelors degrees in Chemistry and Biology from College of Saint Mary.

Dr. Buda says "I graduated from UNMC and my FIRST and ONLY choice of residency was Creighton-UNMC! I want to say something about Omaha since it is my stomping ground....it is a wonderful place to raise children, I have always felt safe in the city, and there are plenty of wonderful attractions here. Looking back at my residency, I find that I not only learned a great deal about what it takes to be a competent and caring psychiatrist, but I have made a lot of friends along the way. I believe it is very important wherever you choose to go that you feel comfortable with your colleagues and attending, as you will be spending a lot of time with them and they become like your second family. I truly believe that if I ever need help when I am out there in the 'real world' that I can call any of my colleagues or past attendings for advice. This is what the UNMC-Creighton psychiatry residency is about. As the outgoing Chief, I will leave you with some valuable advice....when things get rough....just breath....you will get through the day and before you know it, four years will go by, and you will finally be able to get a real job! Don't worry about job offers after graduating from this residency. When you are done, the outside world knows that this program has trained you well and the offers will flow in. I decided to stay in Omaha and have joined a private practice."

It is difficult to find any program that matches Omaha when it comes to being available for the kids and enjoying watching them grow. My overall experience in Omaha has been, so far, very positive (excellent training, a very friendly work and training environment, a very reasonable cost of living and a family oriented tolerant community). Think Omaha !!!"
