Marriage Prep in the Archdiocese of Omaha
Preparation Process
The marriage preparation process is an eight-month minimum; eight months to a year is ideal. (If a previous marriage is involved, additional time is required.)
Beginning Process
All engaged couples begin the process by:
- contacting the parish/church in which they wish to celebrate their marriage in order to tentatively set the date for their marriage (Please contact Kathleen Denne at 402-280-2975 for information regarding marriages scheduled at St. John's Church.)
- contacting the priest, deacon or marriage preparation coordinator of parish to obtain the information and registration form for the marriage preparation process
FOCCUS
Next, the engaged couple chooses to attend a Pre-Session to complete the FOCCUS Inventory, learn about the entire range of educational programs, and participate in a communication skills presentation. Each couple then schedules individual follow-up sessions with the Marriage Preparation Chaplain or a priest in order to address the FOCCUS issues in depth.
Educational Program
In addition, each couple will attend an educational/experiential program, Engaged Encounter or When Families Marry.
Planning the Ceremony
Finally, each couple prepares their marriage liturgy with the priest celebrant for their wedding.
