Report - May 05: Notes from Renewal Committee

As part of our preparation for undergoing some renewal of our liturgical space, Brother William Woeger, FSC, director of the Office of Worship of the Omaha Archdiocese, will give tow presentations in May to deepen our community's grasp of Vatican II liturgical principles that will be applied to the renewal of our worship space.

Sunday, May 8th from 9:15-10:15 a.m.

Bro. William will present Part II of his program (Part 1 was on Sunday, April 24th). He will demonstrate the application of Vatican II principles to church renovation/restoration through a number of "before and after" pictures of churches with which he has worked.

Wednesday, May 18th, from 7-8:30 p.m

Bro. William will offer the entire program for those who have not been able to attend the Sunday morning sessions. Please make sure to attend one of these.

Where are we now

The Renewal Committee has begun to move toward developing a Master Plan for the renewal of our worship space in several parts:

  1. Br. William continues to offer liturgical education for the parish
  2. The committee has begun talks with an architect to develop said Master Plan and to coordinate matters with Facilities Management with Creighton University.
  3. Bovard Studios are repairing some of the stained glass windows as we speak.
  4. Fr. Roc O'Connor, S.J. will preach at all Masses on the weekend of May 7-8 regarding the direction and status of the renewal process.

Where We are NOT

There is no working plan for church renewal, just a boatload of diverse opinions held by many different folks in the parish. By the time we are well into our process of liturgical formation and education, we all should be ready to look at  several proposed models for what the renewed space might look like. The purpose of the liturgical formation is to bring us all up to speed so that we can make informed decisions together about the shape of our worship space. We are not getting rid of the high altar, by the way. That's just an unfounded rumor!
