Morphology
The Morphology Core Facility provides instrumentation and expert assistance to all Creighton faculty and outside users for research programs needing transmission or scanning electron microscopic analysis for high resolution imaging and identification of tissue structures.
A new state-of-the-art JEOL-1011 transmission electron microscope is available along with a JEOL 240A scanning electron microscope that can acquire digital images or movies using the Evex image analysis system or on Polaroid film. High resolution images can also be acquired digitally with AMT-XR40 digital imaging system or on film.
The facility can support all standard biological specimen protocols with equipment such as ultramicrotomes, glass knife makers, diamond knives, centrifuges, embedding ovens, sputter coater, critical point dying apparatus and a vacuum evaporator. A cryostat for preparation of frozen sections is also available. Technical expertise is available in the areas of transmission electron microscopy, scanning electronmicroscopy, light microscopy, ultramicrotomy, specimen preparation, immunocytochemistry, photography and digital imaging.
Located in Room 281 of the Criss Complex, the Core is managed by the Department of Pathology and supported in part by user fees for supplies, instrument time, and technical assistance.
