Xie and Qin Receive Molecular Pharmacology Awards

Two trainees under the supervision of Creighton Pharmacology faculty member Yaping Tu, PhD were recently recognized with research awards for research results presented at a national meeting.

The Division for Molecular Pharmacology of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics recognized Dr. Yan Xie with a Postdoctoral Scientist Award for her work in Dr. Tu’s laboratory.  Dr. Xie’s presentation was entitled “Vasoactive intestinal peptide transactivates the androgen receptor through a PKA-dependent extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway in prostate cancer cells.”

The Division for Molecular Pharmacology also recognized Dr. Jianbing Qin with a Graduate Student Best Abstract Award.  Qin’s presentation was entitled “PIP3-dependent Rac exchanger 1 (P-Rex1) promotes prostate cancer cell migration.”

Both Dr. Qin and Dr. Xie received cash awards in recognition of their achievements.  Dr. Qin's presentation was one of only five to receive national recognition.

The awards were presented on May 1, 2007, in Washington D.C. at the annual meeting of the Federation of Societies for Experimental Biology.  Qin also received a travel award from the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Biology to attend the meeting.
