White Coat Ceremony 2008
The School of Medicine formally welcomed 126 new students into their first year of medical school on Friday, August 15th in a White Coat Ceremony held at Hilton Omaha Ballroom before the assembled faculty and families of the students. Each student was presented with a white coat, symbolic of the medical profession. In the pocket of each coat was the name of a participant in the White Coat Alumni Sponsorship Project. Students are encouraged to contact their alumni sponsors and thank them for their support. Each student also received a specially designed lapel pin contributed by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and a copy of the book “On Doctoring,” courtesy of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. Cecile Zielinski, Acting Dean for the School of Medicine, delivered a charge to the matriculants and welcomed them to the vocation of caring for and about patients. She also highlighted the ongoing commitment of Creighton faculty and students to the tenets of professionalism and service to others. Dr. Zielinski concluded the ceremony by asking the students to recite the Student Physician’s Oath.
