Med Student Walter Receives RSNA Grant

James Walter, School of Medicine Class of 2011, was awarded the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) Research and Education Foundation's medical student research grant.

The highly competitive $6000 grant was awarded to make radiology research opportunities possible for medical students and to encourage them, early in their medical careers, to consider academic radiology as an important option for their future.

Walter will use this grant to support radiological research at the University of Pennsylvania this summer, as a visiting scholar under the mentorship of Dr. Chaitanya Divigi - Professor of Radiology and Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Molecular Imaging.  For his project, James will evaluate optimal radiometal-chelator complexes for PET-CT visualization of Le-Y, a protein overexpressed in tumors such as small cell lung cancer, using monoclonal antibodies.  The ultimate goal of the research project is to develop more sensitive visualization of metastatic cancers.
