An M2 student presented his research at the University of Texas Medical Branch

Andrew Manolides, an M2 student, presented his research at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) (Galveston Island), held on the 24th and 25th of April 2008.  His presentation won at the regional Midwest meeting, which automatically qualified his work for the National Student Research Forum (NSRF) at UTMB. Manolides competed against participants from around the USA as well as a few international participants.

His research work in the orthopedic medicine category, consisted of mechanical testing and micro computed tomography (and analysis, writing, etc) of mouse bones from three genotypes of interest, some of which had been treated with prednisone in life. The study aimed to compare effects of prednisone on bone structure and strength between all three genotypes of mice.  His work was supported and mentored by Dr. Mohammed Akhter.  The School of Medicine and Department of Internal Medicine at Creighton hospital were very generous, and agreed to fund Andrew’s trip.
