Creighton Reps Present and Win at American Society of Microbiology Meeting
On March 14-15, 2008, the joint meeting of the Missouri Valley and Missouri Branches of the American Society of Microbiology was held at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri. This meeting included scientists and students from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
Nancy Hanson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, was a symposium speaker and her talk was entitled: “Emergence of Resistance in the Absence of Direct Selective Pressure: A Story from a Cystic Fibrosis Patient.”
Additionally, Kayode Fashae, a visiting Fulbright Graduate Research Scholar, presented a talk entitled: “Identification of CTX-M and AmpC Beta-lactamases in E. coli and Klebsiella spp. from Nigeria.” Advisor: Nancy D. Hanson
Philip Kurpiel, Ph.D., Medical Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Student, was awarded first place for graduate student presentation entitled: “Expression of blaCMY-2 in Escherichia coli with reduced susceptibility to piperacillin/tazobactam is not associated with promoter mutations.” Ph.D. Advisor: Nancy D. Hanson
