Grad Students Win Best Poster at ASPET

Jianbing Qin and JoJu George, both graduate students in the Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine, won awards in the Best Poster Competition at the Annual American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) Meeting in San Diego.  This national meeting was held April 5 to 9 and involved students from across the United States.

Qin and George competed with 103 graduate students and postdocs from some of the highest profile laboratories in the nation.  Both also received ASPET travel awards to attend this national meeting.

Qin received a second place award at the ASPET Best Abstract Competition for graduate students in the Molecular Pharmacology Division contest.  His poster was entitled "Upregulation of PIP3-dependent Rac Exchanger 1 (P-Rex1) promotes prostate cancer metastasis."  He is a student in Dr. Yaping Tu’s laboratory

George received a third place award at the ASPET Best Abstract Competition for graduate students in the Neuropharmacology Division contest.  His poster was entitled “Brevetoxin sensitizes immature cerebrocortical neurons to NMDA receptor signaling through activation of voltage-gated sodium channels.”   He works in the laboratory of Dr. Tom Murray.
