CU School of Medicine hosted its annual Golden Apple Banquet and Awards Ceremony

Creighton University School of Medicine hosted its annual Golden Apple Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Hilton Omaha in the Grand Central Ballroom.  Over 600 guests were in attendance including faculty and staff from the School of Medicine, as well as members from all four medical school classes and their guests.  Dr. Cam Enarson, Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice-President for the Health Sciences, gave an address, as did Dr. Michael Kavan, Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the School of Medicine.  In addition, Dr. Kavan presented the Aesculapian Awards, which go to one student in each class for his or her exceptional dedication and service to the class, the school, and the community. 

 The Aesculapian Award winners were William “Cris” Crisler for the Class of 2011, Thuydung Thi Trinh for the Class of 2010, Michael Anderson for the Class of 2009, and Annie Cook for the Class of 2008.  Dr. Thomas Hansen from the Department of Family Medicine was honored as a national finalist for the Humanism in Medicine Award sponsored by the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative and the Association of American Medical Colleges.  The presentation of the Golden Apple Awards was made by each class president.  Mark Hsiao, president for the Class of 2011, presented the Golden Apple to Dr. John Yee in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.  Aaron Pannier, president for the Class of 2010, presented the Golden Apple to Dr. William Hunter in the Department of Pathology.  Christopher “Tag” Veal, president for the Class of 2009, presented the faculty Golden Apple to Dr. Alfred Fleming in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the resident Golden Apple to Dr. Robert Lindau in the Department of Surgery.  Annie Cook, president of the Class of 2008, presented the faculty Golden Apple to Dr. Erica Cichowski, previously from the Department of Internal Medicine, and the resident Golden Apple to Dr. Tony Ning in the Department of Internal Medicine.  Attendees were also treated to a viewing of the Senior Video and an evening of dancing.
