Second Faculty Club Highlights Basic Science and Clinical Research
More than 80 School of Medicine faculty members gathered at Joslyn Castle for the second Faculty Club event: "Celebrate Innovation in Basic Science and Clinical Research" on Thursday, May 1, 2008.
This reception gave faculty the opportunity to review 26 poster presentations regarding their peers' research and helped them become familiar with the work of their Creighton colleagues.
Thomas Murray, Ph. D., Associate Dean for Research, School of Medicine, said, "The caliber of research being presented has been validated through several forms of national peer review. Much of the research is funded by NIH and other national granting agencies. Moreover, our graduate and medical students have recently won an array of national and regional poster competitions. We should be proud to be involved in research of this high caliber."
Attendees were asked to vote for the Top Three Research Poster Exhibits. Awards were presented to the primary author of the research projects receiving the most votes. The following are the winning projects.
First Place: Poonam Sharma, M.D. (Creighton University School of Medicine); S. Senapati, Ph.D. student (University of Nebraska Medical Center); S.K. Batra, Ph.D. (University of Nebraska Medical Center) - "Expression Profile of MUC4 in Gastric Adenocarcinoma and its Functional Significance" - #19 in book

The theme of the evening was connected to an Omaha Chamber of Commerce city-wide promotion entitled O! A traveling O! sculpture, specifcally for community events, greeted attendees as they arrived.
O! is a public awareness campaign that promotes achievements and progress of residents and local organizations.
O! embodies and defines excitement for new discovery - a message that directly correlates to the research work done by Creighton faculty. This Omaha symbol also reminded attendees that the research done here contributes not only to Creighton, but to the greater Omaha community and beyond.
Another Faculty Club event is planned for Fall 2008.
