Benefits

A. Emeritus status

  1. may be granted to retired faculty members on the basis of long
    and/or outstanding performance in the areas of teaching or scholarship or clinical activity or service to the University.  Emeritus Faculty are encouraged to continue to provide distinguished and productive service to the Medical School.  Emeritus faculty continue to be members of their academic departments and have the right to attend University faculty meetings.

B. Mechanism of Appointment

  1. The faculty member should be retired as a Faculty member from the 
    Teaching Research, Clinician-Educator, Adjunct or Contributed- Service 
    Categories or as a retired University Professors.
  2. Application for Emeritus status shall be initiated by the candidate or 
    the candidate’s Chair along with a recent curriculum vitae.
  3. The recommendation shall be based on a cover letter from the Dean, indicating support or lack of support.
  4. The Dean shall forward the cover letter and curriculum vitae to the President for approval.
  5. The President announces his decision to the Dean and to the candidate.
  6. Appointments are announced at the Annual Convocation during Founder’s Week.

C. Activities of the Emeritus Faculty include:

  1. Quarterly academic luncheon meetings with invited speakers.
  2. Opportunities to participate in teaching programs (graduate, medical  
  3. Community relations/outreach activities.
  4. Local, national and international academic activities.
  5. The establishment of endowments and scholarships for students and       student recruitment.
  6. Alumni relations.
  7. Help mobilize and encourage retirees to continue their service to the   institution and community.
  8. Mentoring junior faculty and students.
  9. Other activities of the Medical School and University.

D. Benefits of the Emeritus Faculty.

Benefits listed below are subject to the guidelines defined in The Handbook For Faculty  of Creighton University and the policies and procedures of the University and CUMC.

    4. Campus Public Safety
    5. Continuation of medical insurance at full cost to faculty member
    6. Continuation of dental insurance at full cost to faculty member
    7. Faculty discounts at the University Bookstore
    8. Faculty discount at the Dental Clinic
    9. Receipt of general faculty publications
    10. Parking permit 
    11. Creighton University ID card
    12. Creighton University e-mail address
    13. Participation in general University and faculty functions and events
    14. Kiewit Fitness Center at same fee as active faculty

2. Benefits specific to Emeritus Faculty

  1. Quarterly academic luncheons
  2. Access to Creighton University activities, i.e. lectures and sporting
    events at the same cost as other academic faculty
  3. Listing in the Creighton University School of Medicine Bulletin
  4. Attendance at University convocation and commencements and
    participation in processionals
  5. Inclusion in the faculty mailing lists of Creighton University
    School of Medicine
  6. Access to supportive facilities, i.e. Learning Resources Center

3. Emeritus Faculty who are actively involved in teaching, research/
scholarship, Committee service and outreach/development activities are
also eligible for the following benefits upon agreement with the University.  A  letter of request should be sent to the Director of Emeritus Affairs who will  forward the letter to the appropriate Dean.

  1. Inclusion in the faculty mailing lists of the individual’s medical discipline
  2. Use of a campus mailing address
  3. Invitation to Medical School functions open to the faculty
    Principal Investigator status on grants with the approval of Department
  4. Chair and Dean and subject to IRB, IACUC and other applicable requirements
  5. Office space, which will be based on the level of teaching,
    research/scholarship and outreach/extension activities of the Emeritus Faculty Member as well as space availability

4. Services available to Retired Faculty

Emeritus faculty are eligible to receive services from University Ministry. Use of the Mail Center and rental of campus facilities are subject to current university policies and pricing. For campus facilities, application must be made to the appropriate office.

Creighton University
