Requesting an Excused Absence for a Special Circumstance
When you will unavoidably be absent from a mandatory curricular activity (examination, orientation, small group, multi-disciplinary conference or clinically related activity), you need to get permission in advance.
A single absence from a mandatory course activity requires the approval of the course director.
A request to postpone an exam requires an advance arrangement with the component director.
In addition, any absence from a mandatory activity requires the approval of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
To request an excused absence, a rescheduled exam, or to otherwise bring your special circumstances to our attention, please fill out a request form, which you may download as an Adobe Acrobat file. You can also get the form from Theresa Thurin in the Medical Education Office.
In case of illness, the Student Handbook requires you to inform either the component director or the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in a timely manner.
For a longer absence, you may request a leave of absence from the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
