M1 Orientation Information

M1 Orientation

Getting Started

Computers

  • Purchasing a new computer for medical school is a important decision.  The school of medicine has no requirement or specific recommendations on the type of computer students should buy.  Students use both Mac and PC computers.  It is recommended that you have Microsoft Office with Powerpoint on your computer because powerpoints are available online for each lecture.  Most students tend to purchase laptop computers.  Some prefer to take notes in class on their laptops and others do not.  Wireless internet access is available in most places on Creighton's campus for your convenience.  Students also have access to a computer lab and computers in our small group rooms.
  • For more information about computers and purchasing software through Creighton University visit DoIT.

    • If you plan to keep your car registered and licensed in your home state (other than Nebraska), you will need to purchase a Wheel Tax Exempt Sticker from any branch of the Douglas County DMV.  Public Safety will have information regarding this sticker at their table at the Organization Fair, but they do not sell the stickers.  You have to go to the DMV for that and it’ll cost you $5.00.  When you go to the DMV, they will require proof that you are enrolled as a full-time student.  The letter below will help prove you are.  Print it, fill it out, and take it with you to the DMV with your picture ID (driver’s license or passport) and Creighton student ID.  DMV locations and office hours are printed at the bottom of the attached letter.  Every year you’ll need to buy a new Wheel Tax Exempt Sticker for as long as your car is registered in a state other than Nebraska.  For specific questions about this exemption, please contact the DMV at 402-444-7103.  Not buying an exemption sticker could result in a ticket.
