The Early Detection Research Network (EDRN) is a new program sponsored b the Division of Cancer Prevention of the National Cancer Institute. This program oversees the transition of new research findings from the laboratory into medical practice in the areas of early cancer detection and risk assessment.
The Hereditary Cancer Institute at Creighton University is one of nine clinical centers within the EDRN. One of the HCI's major projects within the EDRN is coordination of the High Risk Registry, which seeks to enroll individuals at high risk for hereditary cancer and facilitate their participation in early cancer detection research conducted throughout the network. The HCI is collaborating with other EDRN investigators in projects seeking early detection tools for colorectal, ovarian and pancreatic cancers. The HCI specimen database which covers two large specimen collections (tumor materials and frozen blood-based specimens) is being organized to verify/obtain proper consent status for use in EDRN collaborative studies.
