Dress Code
The students entering the Clinical Assessment Center should be dressed professionally. This includes wearing a clean lab coat and name tag. Each student should carry their own medical equipment such as watch with a second hand, stethoscope, reflex hammer, and tuning fork as appropriate to the activity.
Professional dress for men is dress slacks, shirt and tie.
For women professional dress includes dress shirt, dress slacks, or dress/skirt. Skirts should be long enough to be modest when bending over to test reflexes or pulses. No midriff tops, and no off-the-shoulder tops.
Scrubs are not appropriate.
Long hair for men and women needs to be secured up and away from the face so that when conducting an exam hair does not fall into the exam area. Facial hair needs to be trimmed close and be clean and neat.
Shoes need to cover the foot and be practical (not high heels) and professional looking (no tennis shoes). Hosiery or socks are to be worn. Clothes in general need to be clean and if appropriate, ironed.
Students not meeting these requirements will be asked to leave the CAC and return with appropriate attire. If this means that a special session needs to be scheduled to accommodate them, the student must pay the expenses incurred. These include the cost of the Standardized Patient's time.
Students may wear one pair of stud ear rings. Nose, tongue or other body piercings are not allowed, nor are dangling or hoop ear rings. Tattoos are to be invisible to the Standardized Patient, that is, if a student has a tattoo it needs to be covered with clothing.
Appointments
The CAC works with the curriculum coordinator to schedule times for student experiences. Standardized patients are hired for each encounter. Students who arrive late will be rescheduled at their own expense, fail the exercise, or expected to join their group at whatever stage of the activity is going on when they arrive at the discretion of the CAC Director. No allowances are made for late students, that is, no repeat of instructions or assignments. Students who do not arrive at all will be rescheduled at their own expense or will fail the exercise. . This includes the cost of the SP wages. In rare cases when students have acceptable reasons for absences, and notification is made in advance, the appointment will be rescheduled.
