Family Medicine Interest Group
Sponsored by: Simon L. Moskowitz, M.D. Endowment
Nebraska Academy of Family Medicine
The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is open to all medical students, M1-M4, especially those interested in family medicine. A diverse group of family medicine physicians speak throughout the year providing students with information regarding family medicine as a specialty. The speakers encourage questions and allow time for discussion following their presentations. The FMIG is especially beneficial for M1s & M2s who may be interested in Family Medicine as a career. You have access to upper classmen who are pursuing a career in Family Medicine and are available to discuss rotation options, residency application process, etc.
Also sponsored by the FMIG are a casting workshop, a suturing workshop, and involvement in the practice OSCE, which involves taking a history and performing a physical exam on standardized patients. All students are required to complete an OSCE session at the end of each academic year.
Membership to the FMIG includes a free membership to the American Academy of Family Physicians and its Nebraska chapter, the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians. Also included in membership is a subscription to the American Family Physicians journal, which is published every two weeks. The journal offers informative articles on a variety of diseases in an easy-to-read format. Remember, membership is free!
I look forward to meeting you at FMIG functions!
