PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLARSHIPS
Among several prestigious scholarships and fellowships available to students, five are for study abroad: Fulbright Grants, Marshall Scholarships, NSEP Scholarships, Rhodes Scholarships and Rotary Fellowships. - Fulbright Grants (Post-Undergraduate Study)
Description: The U.S. Congress created the Fulbright Program in 1946 to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchanges. Each year the Fulbright Program enables U.S. students, artists, and other professionals to study or conduct research in over 100 nations. The Program offers Fulbright Full Grants, Fulbright Travel Grants, Foreign and Private Grants, and teaching opportunities.

- British Marshall Scholarships (Post-Undergraduate Study)
Description: Established by an Act of Parliament in 1953 to commemorate the ideals of the European Recovery Programme (the Marshall plan), the British Marshall Scholarships are intended to enable “intellectually distinguished young Americans to study in the United Kingdom and thereby to gain an understanding and appreciation of the British way of life.”

- The Rhodes Scholarship (Post-Undergraduate Study)
Description: The Rhodes Scholarship provides for study at the University of Oxford and is one of the most competitive awards available. Applicants need to have demonstrated outstanding intellectual and academic achievement, but they must also be able “to show integrity of character, interest in and respect for their fellow beings, the ability to lead, and the energy to use their talents to the full.” Seniors may apply to this post-baccalaureate scholarship.

Undergraduates may apply for these scholarships:
Description: The primary purpose is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. There are three categories of awards: Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships, Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships and short-term Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships.

Description: Established by the National Security Education Act of 1991, NSEP Scholarships aim to provide U.S. undergraduate students with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire expertise in languages, cultures, and countries less commonly taught in the U.S. NSEP Scholarships can be applied for study in all countries except Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships Program
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Programs, this program enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide. The program provides awards of up to $5000 for U.S. citizens undergraduate students at two- and four- year institutions to pursue semester or academic-year long study abroad opportunities in other countries. To be eligible, students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel warning or in Cuba. International Institute of Education, Midwest Office
Awards study abroad scholarships ($1000 to $4000) to U.S. students at Midwest colleges. Open to students in good academic standing with no previous study abroad experience. No restrictions regarding destination, length of program or field of study. Applicants must show that they are accepted into a study abroad program for which credit will be given by the home institution. Applicants studying in non-Western countries are particularly encouraged to apply.
Adell & Hancock Fund
The purpose of the Adell & Hancock Fund is to provide a supplemental support to international or U.S. students who are in need of additional funds to carry out their international educational plans. The amount given to each student will depend on individual need determined by IIE/Denver’s scholarship committee, not to exceed $2,400. Please see the Study Abroad Coordinator for more information.

COUNTRY/REGION SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Annette Kade Scholarship
For study in France and Germany. Award criteria include genuine interest in studying in France or Germany, strong academic background, and financial need. Only full year applicants for ISEP exchanges in France or Germany qualify. Applications are due May 15.
Bridging Scholarships
The Association of Teachers of Japanese (ATI) administers scholarships for U.S. students studying in Japan. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships; Japanese language background is not a requirement. Awards range from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the length of the program. For more information, visit Creighton's Bridging Scholarship Page.
DAAD Scholarship
The German Academic Service offers undergraduate scholarships for study abroad, university language or summer courses, senior thesis research, and/or internships in Germany. Grants are also available to graduate students, PhD candidates and faculty, scholars and scientists at universities. For more information, visit Creighton's DAAD Scholarship Page.
Freeman Asia
The primary goal of the Freeman-Asia program is to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia by providing students with the information and financial assistance they will need. Awardees will be expected to share their experiences with their home campus to encourage study abroad in others, and to spread understanding of Asia in their home communities. FIELD OF STUDY SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
French Ministry of Education
Full year ISEP participants to the Université de Lille III and the Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens) have the opportunity to teach English in French elementary or secondary schools during their exchange. Students participating in the program take half a normal course load and earn the other half of their credits by teaching under the supervision of the Education Department of their host institution. They also receive a payment of 730 Euros per month. Participants teach 12 hours per week for 7 months. Students must have at least four semesters of college-level French and some course work in Education.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
NSF supports international research and education through a variety of programs, including fellowships, travel grants, summer institutes, workshops, and research and education projects.
Social Science Research Council
The SSRC sponsors more than forty interdisciplinary programs focused on specific areas of research, on building new fields, and on the education and training of researchers. Council programs also support the development of institutional bases for social science around the world, and work to strengthen collaboration and communication among researchers.
