Reading 031
An introductory reading course that provides students sufficient opportunity to develop and practice essential reading skills and strategies, including extensive vocabulary practice. The readings will be on topics that a student could expect at a university level.

Reading 032
This course develops core reading skills and strategies necessary to succeed in a university environment. Students will have plenty of opportunity to apply existing and newly learned reading and language skills based on prose and non-prose readings.

Reading 041
Through a variety of reading skills-building activities and text-processing strategies, this course is designed to help high-intermediate students comprehend and critically read college-level academic texts. Students will paraphrase, summarize, make inferences and react to reading materials in discussions and in writing. 

Reading 042
This course builds on the reading skills the high-intermediate students have developed in Reading 041. Students learn and practice additional reading strategies, continue to expand their academic vocabulary with vocabulary learning strategies, and learn and apply critical thinking skills.  Additionally, students learn the language and organization of academic texts as an aid to comprehension.

Reading 051
This course is designed to help advanced students develop the ability to comprehend and interpret authentic college-level texts in content areas by applying appropriate reading strategies.  Students will also increase their critical thinking skills through making inferences and finding writers’ purpose, tone, and theme.  In addition, students are introduced to contextualized vocabulary to help them comprehend the reading selections.

Reading 052
Reading 052 continues to help advanced students develop the ability to comprehend and interpret authentic college-level texts in content areas.  Students will continue to evaluate purpose, tone, and theme as well as increasing their critical thinking skills through synthesizing and reacting and making inferences.  Students are expected to apply contextualized vocabulary to understanding and responding to selected readings.
