After more than a decade, WebSPIRS has reached its end of life and will no longer be available after June 30, 2008. The Health Sciences Library has migrated the databases that were provided via WebSPIRS to other vendor's interfaces, primarily EBSCOhost.

MEDLINE is now available at EBSCOhost or PubMed.

A new National Institutes of Health (NIH) clinical research program will aim to provide answers to patients with mysterious conditions that have long eluded diagnosis. Called the Undiagnosed Diseases Program, the trans-NIH initiative will focus on the most puzzling medical cases referred to the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. With the program infrastructure now in place, the program is ready to accept patients. For more information about the Undiagnosed Diseases Program, visit the NIH website. Creighton University employees and students are entitled to certain software at extremely discounted pricing. Employees and students can purchase software through this location: http://www.creighton.edu/doit/software/personal rather than through the Health Sciences Library as in the past. For approximately $25 the Office 2007 suite is available for the Work at Home license. Log in with your netid and password, fill out the online form, add the software to your shopping cart, and check out like any online storefront. The license allows Creighton employees and students to install Office on one personal computer at home and is NOT for university owned computers.

Beginning in April, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2007 (H.R. 2764) will take effect. This law requires that all investigators funded by the NIH submit or have submitted for them to the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed Central an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication. PubMed classes will be held in the Thune Seminar Rooms A & B from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday March 27th and again on Tuesday, April 1st. Classes will focus on utilizing some of PubMed’s special options to get more out of your searches.

Beth Furlong, Ph.D., JD, will share some of her most noteworthy insights gained while following the Jesuit Mission in the Seven Tribal States region of North East India. This program will begin at noon on Thursday, April 3rd in the Library’s Thune Seminar Rooms.

On Friday March 14th, the entire Creighton University network will be offline for renovation of the campus data center. Work will start at 7:00 p.m. and will last a minimum of six hours. Services will return to normal slowly as more and more systems come back online throughout the evening of the 14th or the early hours on the 15th.

On December 26, 2007, President Bush signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008 (H.R. 2764) which requires that all investigators funded by the NIH submit or have submitted for them to the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed Central an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication. Previously this was requested, but was not required. This requirement goes into effect for all peer-reviewed articles accepted for publication on or after April 7, 2008.

The Library would like to support faculty participation in this effort, by offering to assist in submitting manuscripts via the NIHMS System.
