Measure of Success and Eligibility

Criteria for Success in the Program:

The successful post baccalaureate student will achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (4.0 scale) or greater on all academic work in the Program.  In addition, the successful student will achieve a score of at least 8 on each of the MCAT examination sections (Verbal Reasoning, Physical Science, and Biological Science) in the April examination.  Finally, the successful student will have a positive letter of support from the Program Director that covers professionalism, interpersonal skills, and readiness for the study of medicine.

The successful post baccalaureate student is guaranteed a seat in the next fall  entering class at Creighton University School of Medicine.  In addition, the successful post baccalaureate student will receive a partial scholarship when he/she enrolls at Creighton’s School of Medicine.  The minimum scholarship will be $10,000 per year.  The student must earn Satisfactory (SA) or better on all coursework, clerkships and electives, and advance with their class each year in medical school in order to retain the scholarship.  The post baccalaureate student is also eligible for other scholarships available in the School of Medicine.

Eligibility:

Eligible students must be “a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or foreign national who possess a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States.”  They must have earned a baccalaureate degree with a significant science focus and they MUST NOT have been previously accepted to a medical school.  Indeed, the eligible student must have applied to and been denied entry into medical school.  Further, the applicant must not be currently enrolled in medical school or another health or allied health professions degree-granting program.  In fact, Creighton University requires that each accepted applicant withdraw any active applications to such degree-granting programs as a condition of acceptance to the Post baccalaureate Program at Creighton University School of Medicine.

 

Accepted applicants must provide documentary evidence satisfactory to Creighton University that they are covered by health insurance.  They must also provide immunization records.  The accepted applicants are also expected to meet the responsibility of the program fees and their own living expenses in addition to any tuition fees for the courses. 
Financial assistance is available through FAFSA and alternative loans.
