Admission Steps

  1. Obtain the necessary forms. You may contact the Graduate School office by mail, phone or e-mail gradsch@creighton.edu for a complete packet or you may download the forms using Adobe Acrobat. If you intend to pursue a graduate degree in the College of Business Administration, visit the college website for information on admission requirements.
  2. Fill out the application form, which requires details of your academic history, and send it to the Graduate School, along with a $50.00 application fee.   If paying by check or money order, please make the item payable to "Creighton University" (under no circumstances is this fee refunded or waived).
  3. Have submitted on your behalf three (3) recommendations from people who are qualified to judge your academic abilities.  If available, these recommendations should come from faculty involved in your most recent degree program.   Work supervisors who can judge your academic capacity may be used as alternate reference sources.  Applicants to the Nursing program must submit at least one recommendation from a nursing employer or supervisor.
  4. Send official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work previously attempted.   Request the registrar of each higher institution you have previously attended or are attending to send a complete official transcript of your academic record directly to the Graduate School Office.
  5. In general, GRE scores are required for admission to the Graduate School at Creighton University.  Exceptions include the MBA program, which requires submission of GMAT scores; and the Negotiation and Dispute Resolution program, which will accept GRE, GMAT or LSAT scores.  The GRE is NOT required for admission to the graduate programs in Christian Spirituality, Liberal Studies, or Nursing, or the Certificate in Health Services Administration.  In addition, the graduate program in English requires the GRE English subject test only.  To register for the GRE examination, contact the nearest Sylvan Learning Center or contact the Educational Testing Service for information on the closest testing center.  If you have taken the GRE within the last 5 years, you may ask that a copy of your scores be sent to Creighton University.   U.S., Canadian and Puerto Rican applicants may call 1-888-473-7267 to request scores; applicants from all other locations should call 1-609-771-7290.  There is a charge for this service.  (If you have an earned master's degree, the GRE may be waived).
  6. If you are an international student, you must submit both GRE and TOEFL examination scores.  To find out the location for these examinations, you may contact a regional registration center.
  7. A personal statement is required for the following programs:  Counseling; English; Medical Microbiology; Negotiation and Dispute Resolution; Nursing; and Pharmacology.
  8. Applicants to the Education or Counseling program should submit a completed and signed Felony Conviction Form/Mental Capacity Form.
  9. Applicants to the English program should submit a 15-page writing sample.
  10. Applicants to programs in Counseling, Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, and Nursing should submit a current resume.

  12. When your application, fee, official transcripts, recommendations/ evaluations, and other supporting documents have been received, they will be reviewed by the appropriate department and then a decision presented to the Dean of the Graduate School.  When a decision has been made regarding your application for admission, you will be notified in writing.
