Eligibility

Who is eligible to receive services?

The SSS Program is designed to provide academic, emotional, and limited financial support for undergraduate students who meet the following criteria:

  1. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident requirements
  2. Accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled at Creighton University
  3. Highly motivated to earn a degree from Creighton University
  4. Demonstrate an area of academic need and potential for success
  5. Meets one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
    • first-generation: neither parent graduated from a four-year college with a baccalaureate degree
    • meet income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education, and
    • disabled: a person who, because of a disability, needs specifically designed instructional materials or programs, modified physical facilities, or related services in order to participate fully.

Preference is given to students who are disabled or who meet both first-generation and income criteria. Students must demonstrate academic need for program services.

Requirements

In exchange for the services provided by SSS, students are expected to complete semester requirements.  The requirements for each semester are as follows:

  1. Attendance at orientation and completion of paperwork
  2. Completion of the needs assessment forms
  3. Attendance at two workshops (cultural events qualify as workshops)
  4. Meeting with academic counselor, Karen Thurber
  5. Meeting with staff member to discuss mid-term grades
  6. Other expectations per individual needs
