Student Life Director
Mr. Justin Lampe
Introduction:
Saludos! My name is Justin Lampe and I am the Student Life Director for Encuentro Dominicano out of the Department of Residence Life, Division of Student Services. My work involves planning, implementing and executing many of the out of class experiences that you will be exposed to in the Dom. Rep. Your housing, health, safety, cultural competence, leisure activities and personal well being are all concerns of mine.
As you may know, one of the foundations of a Jesuit educational experience is Cura Personalis or loosely translated as education of the whole person – mind, body and spirit. The integration and interaction of your out of class experience with what you learn in class shows that we are serious in our belief that the educational model of the Jesuits fuses with the educational environment here in the Dom. Rep.
Background:
My interest in the Dom. Rep. stems from a high school service trip that I made to the island in 1998. That trip planted an interest in me of what the world looks like through another’s eye and during my college years led me to places as far east as Tunisia, Africa and as far south as El Salvador. I was very active in service projects while attending Saint Louis University a Jesuit University in Saint Louis Missouri and truly value the many years of Jesuit education I have received. When I finished my undergraduate degree in history, I entered a Master’s program in Higher Education Administration while also doing work with enrollment at the graduate level, as well as, the undergraduate living/learning community at SLU. The position I hold in the Dom. Rep. allows me to work in an environment where many of my interests and talents converge as I support students cross cultural interactions.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns about Encuentro Dominicano at justinlampe@creighton.edu
Family:
I was raised in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Saint Louis to do my undergraduate and master’s work. While in Saint Louis I met my wife Sarah who also has Midwestern roots. She does research in infectious diseases and is currently doing her graduate studies in Public Health. We were married in July of 2006 and reside at the ILAC/CESI center in Santiago.
