Student Service Desk Services
The Student Service Desk offers many services to Creighton students. These are all procedures that can be performed on your computer, if you bring it in to the Service Desk in the Old Gym. Some services require a fee, while others are free. See the Service Price List for fees.
10-Point Inspection
The 10 point inspection offered by the Student Service Desk will tune your computer to be faster and safer. This service is free for students. Just bring your computer in to the Student Service Desk on the first floor of the Old Gym.
- Antivirus Installation and Scan - Install Symantec Antivirus if needed and scan for viruses
- Operating System Updates - Install all critical operating system updates
- Spyware Check - Scan and remove spyware
- Account Audit - Ensure each user account is password protected
- Automatic Updates - Turn on Automatic Updates to automatically install operating system updates
- Startup Minimization - Reduce the number of programs that run on startup
- Cache Flush - Clean up unused "cached" files left by the Internet Explorer web browser
- Hard Drive Defragmentation - Optimize the way data is currently stored on the hard drive
- Browser Settings Audit - Reset browser settings that may have been altered by malicious programs
- Cleaning - Vacuum computer and dust off LCD
Hardware/Software Diagnostics
Not sure why your computer isn't working properly? Would you like to know what solutions are available? DoIT For Students invites you to bring your computer in for free diagnostics. We will look at the issue you are having and offer you solutions. If it is a service we can provide we will let you know, otherwise we can point you in the right direction.
Hardware Installation
Need help installing that additional memory you just bought? Want assistance installing a CD burner? DoIT For Students can install most hardware for a fee of $30. Students who purchased their computer through the Student Purchasing Program are not charged for hardware replacement. Please be sure to understand your warranty fully. Some manufacturers will void their warranty if a seal is broken.
Operating System Reload
An operating system reload will restore your computer to its original state. This will wipe away all viruses and malicious spyware that may have been installed on your computer.

Would you like your pictures and documents backed up first? We can do that!**
*As long as you have a license for any version of Windows, we can use our own media to install Windows XP. Must meet minimum system requirements for XP. Mac users will need to provide their original media as we do not have a license for the Mac operating system.
Virus Removal
DoIT For Students will scan your computer using Symantec Antivirus at no cost. However, we charge $30 per hour for virus removal.
You are not required to have your system cleaned by DoIT For Students, however you are responsible for keeping your computer secure.
Spyware Removal
We will scan for and remove spyware that is found on your computer using programs such as Ad-Aware and Spybot. However, for spyware that is not removed using those utilities (Malicious Spyware) and requires manual removal we charge $30/hour.
