Filetypes for Streaming
Creighton's streaming media is served by a Windows Media Streaming Server. For that reason, only certain filetypes can be streamed.
What filetypes can be streamed?
Windows Media Video (wmv)
Windows Media Audio (wma)
mp3 when saved without Variable Bit Rate encoding
What about Quicktime? Real? Flash?
No other file formats are currently streamable from Creighton's streaming services. We did have a Real streaming server at one time, but discontinued it in favor of a single solution.
In the future, it is possible that we may expand oour options, but there are no plans to do so at this time.
Files of these formats can be delivered over the Internet from Creighton servers, but they will not stream. Instead, they will be delivered via http, as web pages are. This will result in a progressive download, not a true streaming experience.
