Spotlight: Theology Podcasts
Exploring the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola while driving in the car? Learning about Mary Magdalene's place in Catholic history while jogging? Technology and Catholic theology have once again blended to provide a service to many hungry for guidance and inspiration. Thanks to the work of two Creighton University theology professors, contemporary Catholic issues presented by a variety of experts are now available as podcasts. Drs. Wendy Wright and John O'Keefe produce and host this series of audio recordings which comprise the program, Catholic Comments. When they began contemplating a venue for theological discussion, they first thought of radio. However, the idea of allowing people from around the world to hear their content through podcasting, they knew they had a match. Podcasting allows audience members to subscribe to the content and receive it automatically via a "podcatcher" such as iTunes. Providing sought-after content in a convenient and easy to use format has great appeal and meets a growing need for rich theological discourse.

According to Wright, "There is spiritual hunger among Americans today and the Catholic tradition has treasures that can meet that need." O'Keefe agrees and adds, "Many educated Catholics are seeking a deeper understanding of their tradition than is often unavailable in parishes."
Program titles range from "hot topics" such as a review of the best selling book, The DaVinci Code, to information about the Spiritual Exercises and other types of prayers. Both Wright and O'Keefe believe the Catholic Comments podcasts provide a great service to the Church and maximize resources available through Creighton by sharing information with a much larger audience.
