Spotlight: Mark Panning
Connecting with friends and alumni is critical to the continued success of Creighton University in terms of raising funds and building a strong sense of community. The flow of information between alumni, donors and the University relies in large part on electronic communication and a reliable database. A key figure in the process is Mark Panning, Team Lead Programmer and Analyst.
Over the course of his 14 year career with IT, Mark has worked with University Relations to build a dynamic and flexible system for fundraising and communication. The Advance BSR system enables University Relations to expand and customize its database and the options for using information. The SmartCall system has facilitated the growth of telephone fundraising as a major contributor to overall fundraising efforts.
Mark says he is continually challenged by his work and has the opportunity to learn and apply new skills through extensive coding. There are always opportunities to identify alumni from around the world and strengthen ways to reach out to them. The “Willing to Lead Campaign” has highlighted the incredible value of clarifying, sorting, and organizing information related to alumni and donors.
In addition to his expertise within DoIT and for University Relations, Mark has been a very active member of the University’s ADA Committee. Now with Presidential Committee status, the ADA Committee has committed to a broad awareness campaign in an effort to educate the Creighton community about ADA compliance and opportunities for improvement. Affected with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type III (SMA-3) since birth, Mark brings both his personal experience and a commitment to service through his work with the ADA Committee (website: www2.creighton.edu/about/ada/ ). One of the major educational events sponsored by the ADA Committee is the Fall Symposium in October during Disability Awareness Month.
