Planned Campus Power Outage

Important: Planned Campus Power Outage

WHAT: Brief planned campus power outage for most main campus buildings
DATE: Monday, May 12, 2008
TIME: 5:00 p.m.- approximately 6:00 p.m.
WHY:  Mission Critical Campus Data Center Power cut over

There will be a planned power outage on May 12 starting at 5:00 p.m. with a duration of one (1) hour for most buildings on the main campus. The mission critical Data Center project needs to complete by the end of May, which includes this major milestone of cutting over the power.

Many university departments and contractors have worked diligently to plan for a date and time that will be of the least impact to the Creighton Community.  After reviewing all campus calendars it was determined, May 12 had the lowest number of people and activities on campus.  The time of day was selected in order reduce impact and potential risk while increasing personal safety due to the availability of daylight. The lack of electric light inside buildings could make work and activities challenging. We reviewed the impact to the University and what steps needed to be taken to protect mission critical equipment, research and patient care during the necessary power outage. Generators will be located at Criss and at ConAgra Plaza to cover power as needed.  The Data Center’s generator will keep all applications up and running during the outage for those buildings or locations that are not affected by the power outage.

While not all of campus will be affected by this brief outage, the list of buildings that are affected are as follows:

Becker, Brandeis, Deglman, Gallagher, Kiewit Hall, McGloin, Swanson, Beirne Tower, Criss I and Criss (old II & III and infill), Eppley, Green House, Hixson Lied, Rigge Science, Humanities, Communication Arts, Law School, Law School Parking Garage, Kitty Gaughn Pavilion, Lied Education Center, Creighton Hall, Alumni Library, St. John’s Church, Ignatius House Student Center, Kiewit Fitness Center, Old Gym, Markoe Hall

If your building is not in the list above, your buiding will not be affected.  For example, none of the off-campus clinics, Boyne, Cardiac, CUMC, Davis, Opus, Murphy, Labaj, Linn, Morrison, Wareham, or 24th Street Parking Garage will be affected.

Following best practices such as powering down computers, printers, copiers, faxes and other equipment not on emergency power before 5:00 p.m. would be helpful precautions. Implement personal safety - if you remain on campus in one of the affected buildings, either stay put in your space or find an open space with daylight until power returns.
