Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007

Introduction

In the spring of 2007, the Division of Information Technology and a team of technologists from across campus began planning the release of Microsoft Office 2007, the latest Windows® version of the Microsoft Office Suite. The team spent many hours testing the new features and functionality of Microsoft Office 2007 and its compatibility with campus applications. The team also assessed and recommended minimum system requirements for faculty and staff utilizing Windows-based PCs. After evaluating Microsoft Office 2007, the team has decided to proceed with deployment to Creighton faculty and staff. Creighton students and faculty and staff can now purchase Microsoft products for their personal computers.  Please click here to find out more.

Why are we upgrading?

There are several reasons we are making the switch to Office 2007:

Minimum System Requirements

If you need assistance locating your computer information, please read "How to find Office 2007 System Requirements".

Included Applications

Office 2007 Training

In the class, "First Look – Office 2007," you will have a chance to explore the new version of Microsoft Office 2007.  Examples will focus on Word 2007, but the information provided will assist you in the other Office 2007 applications. The training will take about one hour with time for Question and Answer at the end.

What to expect from the training:

Classes will be held in the LearnIT Lab, room 401a in the Old Gym (10 participant limit). You will be contacted with available schedules of training classes.

Note: Please remember to leave your computer on when you go to training as Office 2007 will be installed while you are at the training session. If you are upgrading a laptop, please leave it turned on at your desk and plugged into the network.

Why you need to attend training

Attending the First Look: Office 2007 class is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.  Office 2007 has a completely different user interface compared to all previous versions of Office.  Microsoft has suggested the learning curve is anywhere from two to three weeks.  Do you know what the Ribbon is?  Did you know that the menu bar is gone?  Are you prepared for totally new file formats (no more .doc)?

By attending the training session, you will be able to get a better idea of all of the new features, changes, receive helpful hints to make the transition to Office 2007 easier, and avoid the frustration of finding the features that you have always used.   You will also receive documentation that can be used as a reference guide.

Faculty/Staff Deployment

Faculty and Staff may proceed to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 if their PC meets the minimum requirements. Based on feedback from the Office 2007 Early Adopters, faculty and staff will need to go through basic Office 2007 training to learn about the new Office Suite. While faculty and staff are in training, their computers will be upgraded to Office 2007.
