CU-ONE FAQs

Some concerns and questions have been raised over CU-ONE. Please see if these answers clear up your questions. If not, please let us know.

What does this mean for Creighton?

The Creighton network has evolved into one of the most valuable tools in the operation of the university from email to payroll. CU-ONE helps all of us protect the network from infected devices which have the ability to spread viruses to other network computers. CU-ONE provides automatic installation of antivirus software to help minimize this network threat. Additionally, DoIT can improve support by identifying a contact person for each registered device. Our primary goal is to provide a stable and robust Learning Network for all members of the Creighton community.

What does this mean for me?

The first time a device is used on our network where CU-ONE has been implemented, you will be able to unlock the network restrictions by following a few easy steps. Once you’ve registered your device, you will not have to register it again.

What about privacy concerns?

CU-ONE does not record a history of network usage nor does it track activities.

CU-ONE is a tool to identify infected devices. If we go back to the driver’s license analogy, having a driver’s license doesn’t mean anyone knows where you have driven, or what you did when you got there. It does come in handy for law enforcement when you get picked up for speeding. No one at Creighton is monitoring the content of web surfing but we do need to be able to identify the owner of a device that is spreading viruses.
