COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)

CLEP Exam Administration Centers:  Although CLEP examinations are no longer administered at Creighton University, Creighton gives credit for exams taken at other administration centers.  For a listing of test administration centers, and details regarding registration for exams, write the College Level Examination Program office at P.O. Box 6600, Princeton, NJ 08541-6600, or call 1-800-257-9558, or use their website at www.collegeboard.org/clep.

Type of Acceptable Exam:  Credit will only be given for subject exams in pre-determined subject areas (see list below).  No credit will be given for general examinations, or examinations in subjects not listed below.  For some of the eligible exams, an essay must be completed and forwarded to the Creighton College of Arts and Sciences for evaluation.  See “Awarding of Credit” below.

Sending Scores:  Students who have already taken CLEP examinations in appropriate subject areas should arrange to have their scores (and essays, if required) sent to Creighton College of Arts and Sciences, code 6121.  Information on sending scores and/or essays can be obtained by contacting CLEP.  Students who are planning to register for an examination should enter Creighton’s code number in the appropriate item on the registration form, and arrange to have essays (if required) sent as above.

Awarding of Credit:  Upon receipt of an official score report from CLEP, the student’s score will be evaluated according to the minimum scores arranged with the appropriate department for the subject.  If no essay is required for that examination, and the student’s score exceeds the minimum standards, the student will be awarded credit as indicated below.  If an essay is required, the score will first be evaluated.  If the score exceeds the minimum standards, the essay will then be forwarded to the appropriate department for evaluation.  Creighton will either award or deny credit based upon the department’s recommendation.  The decision of the departmental evaluator is final.  If the student has taken the subject examination but not the essay, the student may take the essay portion at the testing site without taking the whole exam again.  Contact the CLEP offices or your nearest test administration center for more details.

These guidelines are current as of May 2001, and apply to the entering class of 2001.
