Students apply for a major before the end of their Sophomore year. Acceptance as a major is based upon the visual arts faculty review of each students' portfolio.
At the end of the Junior year, all candidates, again, have their work reviewed by the faculty to determine if the student should pursue a Bachelor of ARts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Near the end of their final year, Bachelor of Fine Arts students prepare a Senior Thesis Exhibit for the Lied Art Gallery.
The Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design is an interdisciplinary major offered in conjunction with Creighton University's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. It is a unified and comprehensive progrma of study in the traditional graphic arts, electronic media, writing, visualization of text, history and theory of art.
The minor in Art History offers students a basic understanding of the history of visual culture. Art History is interdisciplinary and can complement majors in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. Studio Art majors may also pursue the Art History minor.
The Studio Art minor provides students with hands-on experience and a basic understanding of the practice of Fine Art. The 2D and 3D worlds are studied: line, shape, value, color, texture, form, space, and design. In addition, social context and purpose are examined. The student creates objects of art based on these principles, self-expression, and theories of aesthetics.
