CASTL  >  Why Should You Attend?

Developing Scholars of Teaching and Learning at the 2008 National CASTL Summer Institute

In its sixth year, the CASTL Summer Institute is pleased to continue to offer a variety of developmental opportunities to faculty, scholars, and administrators who share the desire to develop and promote the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). If you are open to changing or re-focusing yourself as a professional educator or graduate student OR you are curious about how the principles of SoTL might strengthen your teaching and deepen your students’ learning, consider attending the Institute. Benefits of attending include:

  • If selected as one of our 28 scholars, you will also have the unique opportunity to share your work with your cohort and to be mentored through this process by a former Carnegie Scholar. The mentoring process at the heart of our Institute adapts principles and practices developed since 1998 by the Carnegie Foundation’s National Scholar Program.
  • Center Directors and Academic Administrators are also encouraged to attend as the Institute will offer, in addition to the 2 ½ days of programming, a full-day Pre-Institute Workshop/Leadership Forum where the morning is devoted to more fully understanding the nature and practices of SoTL and the afternoon allows for institutional administrative teams (or individuals) to strategic plan how to advance, promote, and reward SoTL on your campuses.

This June 4-7 Institute offers you a variety of opportunities to both develop your SoTL learning and abilities and to further promote SoTL work at your various home institutions. We hope you will join our efforts to Develop Scholars of Teaching and Learning!
