Business student receives award, continued
The Spirit of Creighton Award is given annually to the students who represent the best qualities of the University's founders. Recipients are honored for their initiative, enterprise, academic achievement and outstanding character traits.
Joey Ortega received this award during commencement ceremonies over the weekend. Ortega is an accounting/finance major from Denver, CO. He graduated summa cum laude and participated in a variety of service, career and leadership activities during his time at Creighton. He was among the first group of students to bring Youth Leadership Omaha to campus. He also completed an internship with former President Bill Clinton and helped manage the college's $2.5 million portfolio as a member of the Portfolio Practicum class.
Ortega plans to attend law school at NYU next fall and eventually earn his MPA at Harvard.
Filing for Graduation, continued
File for graduation by June 12 if you plan to walk in August 2008. Steps for filing for graduation:
- Go the Registrar’s webpage
- Click on the “N.E.S.T.” link (lower right hand corner of webpage). You will need your student NetID number and password in order to login to N.E.S.T.
- Click on “Student Services & Financial Aid” tab;
- Click on “Student Records” tab;
- Scroll all the way down to the last tab “Degree Application and Graduation Participation”.
If you have any problems accessing/completing the form, contact Teresa Udron in the Registrar’s Office.
Cahill Awards, continued
Cahill award winners for Spring 2008 are:
Dr. Tom Purcell: Named as one of the 100 most influential people in accounting for two years running (2005 and 2006)
Dr. Randy Jorgensen: Led the creation and initiation of our new MSA/CFA Institute partnership program in one academic year
Gail Hafer and Merridy Larsen: Maintained and grew our graduate programs while the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs was on sabbatical
Dr. Anne York: Created and continues to develop our Entrepreneurship Center, including the initiation of our new innovative Bioscience Entrepreneurship program and last year’s inaugural Elevator Pitch Competition
Dr. John Wingender: Twice named the top professor in our BiMBA (Beijing International MBA) program which is considered the top program in all of Asia
Father Schlegel: Reestablished the university’s leadership position within the business community since becoming President in 2000. Actively engages the business community and serves on the Executive Board of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce
Maryanne Rouse: Taking our CAT teams to the next level as witnessed by the Youth Empowerment Program
Jeremy Fisher: Securing over 2,000 internship opportunities for our College of Business students
Dr. Rob Moorman: Creating and directing the success of the Anna Tyler Waite Leadership Program
Dr. Jack Krogstad: Stepping up to coordinate the Beta Alpha Psi luncheon featuring Cynthia Cooper during Mark Taylor's sabbatical at the SEC
Terry Begley: Going above and beyond the call of duty in helping a student with PC problems when no one else could
In recognition that excellence occurs in many contexts on a university campus, the Cahill Awards are designed to recognize the achievements of faculty and staff for their exceptional performance as educators, scholars, service providers and mentors in the College of Business Administration at Creighton University. Cahill Awards are given periodically throughout the calendar year by the Dean to recognize the outstanding work of faculty and staff within the college.
