John Taylor

 

 

John Taylor is a 1984 University of Nebraska at Omaha graduate who holds a B.S. in Construction Engineering and Technology. His career started in Omaha working as an estimator and project manager with a small general contracting firm. John began his career with The Weitz Company in 1986, working for the firm's National Division on various large commercial construction projects across the U.S.

 

With more than 25 years of construction industry experience, Taylor previously served as a project engineer, project manager and construction manager/vice president with Weitz before becoming senior vice president in 2003.

 

Taylor established the Weitz Omaha, Neb. office in 1989, with the successful completion of the Westroads Mall renovation and addition and the construction of the Two Pacific Place office building. Now the Weitz Nebraska offices in Omaha and Lincoln employ more than 150 people.

 

The Weitz Company is one of the nation’s leading general contractors, with offices in Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, Denver, Colorado Springs, Kansas City, Phoenix, and West Palm Beach. According to the Engineering News Record Web site (ENR.com), Weitz ranks nationally among the top 20 general building contractors in the country with sales of more than $1.1 billion in 2005.

 

Active in the community, Taylor initiated The Weitz Company minority construction engineering scholarship through the local Boys and Girls Club chapter and local high schools. He is also a board member of the Catholic Youth Organization, president of the St. Philip Neri Athletic Association, a member of the Creighton University College of Business Advisory Board, and a trustee for the Omaha Construction Industry Health Welfare and Pension funds and the Carpenter's Apprentice Training Center. In addition, Taylor has served as an Urban League of Nebraska board member, and has coached a variety of Omaha youth sports teams. Taylor was also recently honored as the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Construction Systems' Alumnus of the Year for 2005.
