Anu V. Murthy
In 10 years with FirstComp and newly formed subsidiary REX, Anu Murthy has been an integral part of nearly all phases of building the company from a start-up firm to one of Inc. Magazine’s Top 500 fastest-growing companies in the U.S.
Murthy has already positioned REX as one of the most profitable markets in the workers’ compensation industry—producing revenues of close to $200 million for three partners. In her new role, Murthy continues to establish alliances with select, multi-million-dollar investment partners to capitalize on opportunities in workers’ compensation.
One of the initial employees of FirstComp, Murthy helped lay the foundation for the company’s profitability by fine-tuning its methodology for state selection, class analysis and distribution development.
Before helping launch REX as a separate entity, Murthy served as Director of Internet Development for FirstComp, where she spearheaded the evolution of the company’s proprietary, browser-based underwriting and agency quoting platform. With more than 10,000 users nationwide, the company’s one-of-a-kind technology has led to more than 96 percent of new business accounts being submitted online—drastically reducing costs and increasing profitability.
As Director of Sales and Marketing for FirstComp from 1997 to 2001, Murthy created successful promotional campaigns through her use of branding, and established relationships with more than 1,000 independent agencies around the country—a number that has grown to more than 4,500 agents today with 40,000-plus business customers nationwide.
Prior to joining FirstComp, Murthy served for two years as the Marketing Manager for the workers’ compensation division of Berkshire Hathaway’s Homestate Companies, where she developed the company’s distribution for the state of Kansas. Murthy instituted a marketing best practice of on-site agency book reviews for Homestate, resulting in expansive growth and a practice that has become a staple of FirstComp’s marketing strategy.
Murthy was selected by the Midlands Business Journal as one of the Top 40 business people in the Omaha metro area in 2005.
Murthy grew up in Omaha, and graduated summa cum laude as class valedictorian from Creighton University with degrees in Marketing and Finance. An animal lover at heart, Murthy volunteers weekly at the Humane Society’s local animal shelter. She likes all kinds of music, has a background in choir and still enjoys singing when she gets the chance.
