Outstanding Grant Proposals for New Programs
* Bioscience Entrepreneurship Concentration
A proposal for a new concentration in Bioscience Entrepreneurship is outstanding. This program, if funded, will be targeted toward Creighton upper division undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Business, Sciences (College of Arts and Sciences), School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, and School of Law. This interdisciplinary twelve month, three semester program will offer two sequential classroom, team-based courses: Bioscience Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization. Upon completion of the two core courses, students will be offered a six hour summer internship experience in a local bioscience start-up company, technology transfer office, or law firm. Twelve participants will be selected through a competitive application and interview process. Partial scholarships will be available for those selected to participate.
* High School Summer Bioscience and Business Program
The high school summer Bioscience and Business Program, if funded, will be a free four week, partially residential program for Omaha area high school juniors who are considering careers in the biosciences, including areas such as marketing, manufacturing, nursing, research scientist, and lab technician. While the target audience for this program is minority and women students in the Omaha area, applicants will be selected on the basis of their interest in bioscience and entrpreneurial business opportunities. All students must have completed their high school basic science sequence: chemistry, biology and physics. The program will consist of a one-week on-campus classroom component, after which students will work on projects for local bioscience businesses and science-related university organizations and not-for-profits. In addition to high school participants, we will also be seeking Creighton undergraduate and graduate students to serve as team counselors, mentors and project leaders.
