Chess for Fun and Chess for Blood

You will learn the basics of chess, as well as advanced strategies used by the world's best players.  Class time will include instruction, solving puzzles, playing games with classmates, and learning new and interesting variations of chess.

Drew Thyden is a lifelong chess player, having achieved the national expert rating.  He has coached chess for 17 years in Los Angeles and Omaha, most recently at Omaha Central High School, whose chess team has won seven state championships.

Altered Imagery II

You will be recycling and transforming old books into three-dimensional masterpieces.  The artists will write a new chapter in their creative minds.  The results will be absolutely page turning.

Jennifer C. Ballan has a Masters in Secondary Education from the College of Saint Mary and a BA in Fashion Design & Art from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is currently an instructor of art with the Omaha Public Schools.

Auditions: How to Get a Part in a Play

Have you ever wanted to audition for a play, but were too nervous?  Have you ever auditioned and not been cast?  This course is designed to help you through various acting exercise and audition techniques.  We will explore the difference between a prepared audition and a cold reading and introduce you to exercises to help you overcome jitters, build confidence, and have fun at auditions.

Michael McCandless is on the theatre faculty of Creighton University and has been teaching acting for over twenty years. In addition, he is a professional actor who has appeared in numerous stage productions in Omaha and New England and has received numerous awards for his stage work.

Go with the Flow

Computer scientists have used flowcharting as a tool for visual problem-solving for decades.  Now it's your turn to gain skills that will help you in any field of study!  This course begins on paper, but quickly moves to computer-based tools that will enhance any presentation.

Brian Kokensparger is an instructor in Computer Science and the Computer Support Coordinator for the College of Arts & Sciences at Creighton University. He does editing and production of digital videos both at work for training materials, and at home as a hobby.

Investing - A Crash Course in the Stock Market

You will increase your knowledge base about eh stock market, our economy in general, and have the opportunity to participate in a simulation exercise.  This course will take a look at what Hollister ahs to do with Abercombie & Fitch, and what Maybelline has to do with L'Oreal.  Also, you will learn how to invest in video games like Madden NFL08.

Greg Oxley is a high school business teacher for the Omaha Public School and a former stock broker.  He has a BS in Business Administration and Secondary Education and a Master's in History from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Discover the world of emergency medical services and emergency management.  Practice the drills and skills involved in handling emergency situations, from advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation to major trauma care.  Explore the world of emergency management, from major natural disasters to bioterrorism attacks.

Bill Raynovich, NREMTP, EdD, directs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Program at Creighton University.  He has been active in EMS for more than 40 years as a paramedic and as an EMS educator.
