The Service and Recognition Committee has been working hard to ensure that the Jesuit values of "men and women for and with others" is an ongoing component of the lives of young Creighton alumni.
This year, the committee explored ways to integrate service and outreach into current social Young Alumni activities.
In December, the committee held the first Jay Stomp event in conjunction with a Creighton Bluejays men’s basketball game. The event, aimed at stomping out hunger, offered young alums the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items, toiletries, and other items to local homeless shelters.
Members of the Young Alumni Association were on hand at the Omaha Hilton to collect food and hand out free tickets to the game for alumni that gave items. The committee helped replenish the Omaha Food Bank with these donations.
The committee also assisted in the annual Omaha Spirit at Work: Creighton Alumni National Day of Service project, which helped St. Bernard's School.
The committee is building on this success with the development of other service and outreach events. If you have ideas for service projects for the Young Alumni Service and Recognition Committee, please contact Joy Doll at joyot@juno.com.
