Service-Learning Grants, Awards and Campus Resources (11:30 - 1:00, Wednesday, February 6th, 2008, Skutt SC Room 104)
- Creighton University is a member of the Midwest Consortium for Service Learning in Higher Education, who has funded a number of service-learning grants for Creighton's faculty. This Time-out for Lunch will provide an overview of the status of service-learning on Creighton's campus, to include summaries of faculty's grant-sponsored and award-winning efforts, and showcase on-line resources available to assist faculty new to service-learning pedagogy. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions and discuss current practices of and issues related to service-learning instruction. Jesuit Charisms Online and in Faculty Evaluation (11:30 - 1:00, Friday, February 15th, 2008, Skutt SC Room 104)
- As the academic culture moves toward more online offerings, it is reasonable to assume that an effort should be made to incorporate Jesuit charisms into online teaching. This Time-out for Lunch session will present the results of one department's work in operationalizing some of the Jesuit charisms, in developing ways to display them online, and in creating a strategy for evaluating faculty demonstration of these charisms.
Developing and Implementing Grading Rubrics (11:30 - 1:00, Monday, March 17th, 2008, Skutt SC Room 105)
- Do you and your students want expectations and grading to be clear and consistent? Learn to develop assessment rubrics linked to your course outcomes that clearly indicate your requirements to make the grade on papers, assignments and projects.
The Higher Learning Commission's Academy for the Assessment of Student Learning: Creighton University's Plan (11:30 - 1:00, Wednesday, March 26th, 2008, Skutt SC Room 105)
- Creighton University was accepted into the inaugural (2006) class of the Higher Learning Commission's Academy for the Assessment of Student Learning. This Time-out for Lunch will highlight the Creighton plan for improving the assessment of student learning on our campus; specifically, the university-level outcomes and the plan for their assessment will be explicated, as will current attempts to develop and improve peer program reviews and the assessment of curricular and co-curricular dimensions of learning.
CASTL Summer Institute: Professional Dispositions and Values (11:30 - 1:00, Thursday, April 3rd, 2008, Skutt SC Room 104)
- Open to all interested parties, but specifically designed as an orientation for all faculty, staff, or administrators who are planning on attending the CASTL Summer Institute, June 4-7; this Time-out for Lunch will discuss the institute format and expected outcomes. More specifically, all participants, administrative team members, and selected scholars will learn more about their roles, what they can expect to gain from their participation, and the ways in which Creighton's academic community maybe enhanced through their participation.
Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (11:30 - 1:00, Thursday, April 17th, 2008, Skutt SC Room 104)
- Last fall the Reinert Alumni Library administered Project SAILS, the Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills. The results show that obtaining, evaluating and using information in the research process is a challenge for many Creighton students. Join us for a discussion of the results and ways to address these challenges with Nathan Morgan, Reference/Instructional Services Librarian.
