Blackboard/BlueLine
Logging On...
- Open a web browser and go to https://courses.creighton.edu.
- Click on the Login button.
- You will be asked for your user name and password. Your user name is your NetID. Your password is your BLUE password. Once you type this in, you will access your Portal Page.
The Tab Section gets you to resources available on campus through Blackboard. The Tools Menu gives you access to several useful services.
- Announcements - Check here for any announcements made for your classes. You can view them for the present day, the past week, or the past 30 days.
- Calendar - See what important dates your instructor has posted. You can also post your own important events to maintain a calendar of your own.
- Tasks - The teachers can make a "To-Do" list for you! They may remind you of assignments, things you need to bring to class…
- My Grades - This gives you quick reference to the grades in each of your Blackboard classes.
- Send E-mail - This allows you to send e-mail to other people in your class without going to a different browser.
- Personal Information - This area is used for editing your password, changing your e-mail address and setting privacy options.
Now, To Get Into Your Course...
There is a section on your portal page called "My Courses". In this section you will find a list of all the courses you are enrolled in that use Blackboard. Click on the name of the course you wish to access.
An explanation of the buttons...
- The Announcements button will get you to the Homepage of the course and the announcements that your instructor has posted there.
- Course Information is an area to find information about the course, the syllabus, required readings, schedule of classes...things you need to know about the course but not the course content.
- Staff Information gives you all you need to know about the Instructor. Here you will find office hours and location, e-mail address & phone number.
- Course Documents is the material for the course. This is where you will find the content and everything your instructor wants you to have that is relevant to the topic.
- Assignments allows you to look at a description of each assignment and what is required, when it is due,...all the pertinent information for assignments, without having to read through the syllabus again.
- Communication is a vital area, it gives you a place to e-mail the Instructor or any other student in the class. It is also where you would access the Discussion Board and the Chat room if your Instructor is using either of those features.
- Discussion Board is just an even faster way to access the discussion board.
- Groups is a button that will get you to a listing of the groups created by your instructor. You will be able to click on the name of your group and will then have access to a discussion board, e-mail and file sharing particular to your group.
- Tools is a favorite area since it allows you access to a few features students love. First, the digital drop box, a place to hand in your assignments electronically and directly to your Instructor, no paper shuffle. It is as simple as e-mail. Another favorite feature is the grades area. You can see your grade in the class online and privately. No one else can see your grade, just you. With this, you needn't wait until mid term grades come out to see how you are doing.
A Few Other Tips...
- Do not give your password out to anyone.
- If you are having problems with Blackboard, call the Help Desk at 280.1111.
- If you are having problems with the course, contact your professor.
- Last, but certainly not least, you need to set your e-mail to the e-mail you use. You have an e-mail account at Creighton automatically as soon as you register as a student, Blackboard automatically assumes it is the one you use. But if you use a different e-mail, you won't receive the e-mails your instructor sends through Blackboard. So, to change your e-mail, click on the Tools button, then click on Personal Information, then again on Edit Personal Information. There will be a line for e-mail and your Creighton e-mail address will be there. Highlight it and type in your preferred e-mail. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Submit.
Powerpoint Information
Many professors supplement their classes with power point slides. To view and print powerpoint presentations, you need to have Powerpoint or a Powerpoint viewer on your computer. The Powerpoint viewer is a free download. To get it, go to http://www.office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Ppview97.aspx You will see a box on the right hand side of your screen. Click "Download" to install the software onto your computer. You will need to specify where you want the files to go. You only need to download the viewer if you do not already have Powerpoint on your computer. This will enable you to view and print Powerpoint slides.
When printing slides, you may print more than one slide per page. You can choose your print option (1 slide, 3 slides or 6 slides per page) by going to File, Print and choosing your option from the drop down menu.
