Environmental Health & Safety

"It is the policy of Creighton University to provide a safe and healthy environment for all faculty, employees, students, and visitors to campus. The safety and health of our community is imperative in light of our desire for the highest possible quality of life on campus. Under no circumstances will campus safety be ignored or diminished in importance in favor of other financial or cultural priorities. Safety and health issues on campus, and in every facility, will receive a high priority and all safety and health hazards that are discovered will be addressed and corrected without delay."

Next Hazardous Waste Pickup June 3, 2008

The next hazardous waste shipment is scheduled for June 3, 2008.
Please have your inventory to Mary Duda by Friday May 23, 2008.

As always, we will be around a few days before the pickup, on May 29 and 30, to pick up your waste so we can have it ready for shipment the following week.

Please contact Mary or John Baxter with any questions.

DOT shipping training

We have scheduled training for shipping infectious substances, biological samples, or dry ice.  If you are responsible for shipping any of these items, please plan on attending one of the sessions listed below.  For more information, please contact John Baxter at 546-6269.

Sessions for 2008:
May 15  2-4 p.m.
August 13  2-4 p.m.
November 13  2-4 p.m.

All sessions are in room L57 of the Criss Complex

Both the Department of Transportation and International Air Transportation Association requires that training take place every three years or when there is a significant change in the regulations.

Please note if you ship materials preserved in other chemicals you may need additional training.  This will be discussed during the training already scheduled.

Please remember that *everyone* in the lab needs to attend our Annual Lab Safety Training, regardless of employment status.  This includes people working in our labs that are not necessarily employees, but are doing research as a part of their schooling, are doing volunteer work in a lab, etc.

This is a good opportunity to have your summer visitors and any new researchers trained.  We won't be having another session until school starts.

As always, Radiation Safety will be presenting their 10-minute refresher for all lab workers and the longer presentation for radiation workers.

Radiation workers should plan on being at training for the full two hours; all others should plan on one hour.
